It is unfair how some foreigners think that Filipinas are prostitutes, maids, etc. Its very hard to erase that stigma and much even harder to control what people ( especially narrow minded one) think. But maybe gradually, in our own little way, there is still hope that the bad image will be replaced with a good one in time.

Speaking as 100% American Anglo, I am sorry to say that much of what has held the Philippines back, and made people leave the country for success, was military colonialism from the USA.

As long as the bases and the money were flooding in, Filipinos and Filipinas took jobs where people ALWAYS take jobs - where the money is!

I think that the Philippines are now where Ireland was 100 years ago. It was considered a country moving out of abject poverty. Now look at the Irish!

And a century from now, the stereotypes of Filipinas will be as ridiculous as those of the Irish washerwomen last century in America!

in the US for medical professionals like nurses, as long as you are legal or have legal status to work in the US, you are not a bargain. nurses here get the same hourly pay their american counterparts.

what types of jobs do you include in your article? which geographic areas do you mean? are they TNT or do they have documents that allow them to work. for people who are undocumented, yes it is very true that they are underpaid and exploited.

but i believe as an employee, we are a resource. it doesn't have to do anything about one's self worth. we are paid depending on how much employers think worth. it goes back to the numbers game. skilled professionals are paid more than the non-skilled ones. it is true for any country. sometimes, i think we're just like prostitutes, we do the job and get paid. but it's our choice on what jobs to accept and if decide which jobs can help us grow.

i didn't grow up with a mom, she was always in the US. now, i'm a mom, and i understand her decision. i don't think she sold out to anyone. my mom is strong, made decisions for herself and us. she let herself grow with all the challenges in life. no she's not perfect. her marriage with my dad failed, i was one of those rebel kids.

at the end of the day, there are different people. women and men who are horrible people, liars, criminals and there are those women and men who are generous, helpful, honest. it boils down to choice of action.

much love to the filipinas out there.
