I think we're overeacting a bit with this issue. Have you tried googling russian women, polish women, ukrainian women, et al. You'll end up with the same result. What it means is that the site is paying tons of money to make sure that the 1st 3 hits (choices) will be theirs creating more traffic for their business. It is not a personal attack . Although I applaud your vigilance and very proactive approach.

As to the younger generation pinays and pinoys that act more like their foreign conterparts, we, their predecessor are to blame. We've elevated everything foreign as the best. And, always better than any of our homegrown. These children are just following the "foreign" trend that we somehow taught them to be a much better choice. We, their elders, are not really nationalistic that's why up to now, we hardly produce products in PI because we consider it inferior and there's a great chance that we won't buy it especially if it is placed nexted to a foreign brand.

If we really want our dalagitas and dalagas to act like "Maria Clara", then we have to turned back time and make them live in a well protected environment, wearing "our" national costume, almost covered from head to toe, hiding their smiles behind a folding "pamaypay", making them pass time learning how to embroider, crochette, cook, clean, and basically, how to become a good housewife. Sound extreme? Unfortunately, that is the only way that we cld. protect them from ruining "our" filipina image from the years past.

Can we modify their behavior instead? I don't think there is a need since they already know where the line stand except "those handful of midsguided."

I think what we're seeing and experiencing is the same as our parents did while raising us. Every generation will always end up trying to define themselves differently from the previous. As parents, we can keep on reminding them that every decisions and actions they make, will and/or can affect their future. Hopefully, they'll put this before them, before they start posting blogs and pix that someday they might regret.

As to the racist Brit ass from SU and other racists ass , that's what they are and there's no cure to that, unfortunately. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because they speak the Queen's english and are white, makes them educated, "NO". These people are not the standard of their race eighter. These are just a handful. The key is not to let them intimidate you. If they push, pushed back harder.

Mabuhay and keep up the great job!

hi cecile,

I commend you for the conscious guidance you bestow on your children. I also am one with you in wishing the best for them, that they will not come into trouble. In that aspect, we cannot fault most Filipinas because of our God-fearing upbringing.

What I am fearful of is when fellow Filipinas come into trouble or is subjected to discrimination inspite of or despite of God-fearing upbringing by parents because there is so little support. it does not help that our bad image in the Net precedes judgment.

One recent experience I had was at Stumble Upon, a social media network where visual and intellectual stimuli on several topics abound. People get to review a lot of websites or photos or pages of us Stumblers. Now, why would a British guy review my site with an advertisement for a nanny for his children? 21 other Filipina stumblers were subjected to same "review." he could have gone to a classified ads site which is the proper forum for his search for a nanny.

if he has a respect for our rights as members of the network, he will not place the ad there because it will undermine our efforts at building our sites. he was telling the SU community that the work of Filipina stumblers need not be read or viewed because we are only good for taking care of British children.

Needless to say, I cut his head off, blocked him from my site, complained to SU and announced to the SU community that I will not tolerate similar behavior. His "review" have been hidden by all the 21 other Filipinas. There were messages of support from other stumblers, thanking me for standing up to my right to have fun in the network.

That is why I appreciate campaigns such as the Filipina images because they put before us and our environs the real Filipina, with rights as women, albeit, much in need of government support in terms of respect of our rights as women, that we have different images just like any other race, and that we are vulnerable like any human being.

Mabuhay ang Filipina!

Hi I pity women or children's experiencing such situation as Nicole and the teenage girl with Romy Jalosjos case. It happens because some parents has also some mistakes in taking care of their children from birth until they aged. Sorry to say it, but this is my own opinion, believe it or not. . . As I said on my blog "mathelmacecilia.multiply.com" our world today is full of evil and worldy sins. I have 3 children 2 girls and 1 boy, 2 are working and one at Ateneo. Everyday and every moment I have the chance to pray anywhere, while driving, cooking and baking, I always say my prayer to Jesus Christ asking him to save my family from any danger. I also give my children one Bible each for them to read anytime of the day specially, Psalm 91.1-16 prayer for our ONLY PROTECTION day and night. Another is, I don't stop telling them when were all together and texting them to pray and watch-out wherever they go, not to fully trust people they don't really know personally, specially in Manila, though it is now happening anywhere, (coz I am residing in Cebu City). As parents we have to discuss to them horrific things happening in this world, not only in the Philippines. Just look around what is happening today? As the Bible tells us in Daniel 12.1 The time of trouble has come. . .1.) The Global Invironmental Crisis 2.) Out of Control Violence 3.) Out of Control Sex 4.) Increasing Stress, Confusion etc. 5.) Increasing Knowledge, "as people are going to and fro" high-tech 6.)Global Religious Confusion and False Teachings. Parents should know this and discuss with the family to be ready and know to FEAR GOD. . .
