From Rodel Rodis: The Evil Filipina/Pinay Stereotype
Posted by: lorna in Filipina in the NewsI’m a guest of Rodel and Edna Rodis this week at their San Francisco home and at Rodel’s law offices. We’re busy preparing for the biennial gathering of Overseas Filipinos on October 9 to 11, 2009 in Cebu: the 6th Global Filipino Networking Convention. And yes, there will be a Filipina Women’s forum. All very exciting! Rodel is the founder of the Global Filipino Networking Convention (starting 2002). For the 6th Global, he is also the Organizing Committee’s chair.
Rodel Rodis was so disturbed by this CBS coverage that he decided to write about it for his “Telltale Signs” column, which appears at the Philippine News and is syndicated in several Filipino American publications.
Here is Rodel’s Telltale Signs column for this week.

On the other hand, the CBS report was based on facts which is not the case of ABC’s Desperate Housewives. This isn’t fiction nor a stereotyping of Filipinos. It was not a case of depicting Filipinos as murderers. These are unsolved murder cases that involved an evil woman who happened to be a Filipina.

How often do stand-up artist make joke about people of Polish descent? The so called polac-jokes in which Polish immigrants are seen as stupid. Do Polish newspapers and politicians demande an international apology?
Or are only Philippine newspapers, citizens and politicians high-minded?
Instead of crying about such silly things, try working at the future of the Philippine children!
How many hatefull things are said by Philippine people about other races? Somethimes even about mixed children! Hypocritical such things are said in Tagalog, Cebuano or Waray so the targetted people do not know about it.
