Many years ago I dated a second-generation lady from Filipino history. She was the victim of discrimination for being brown – and in California, too!

From what I learned of the true Filipino culture – and remember, this is through a US descendant, not a native – I thought the culture was warm, humane and intriguing.

I think Americans are desperately jealous of the culture, and lonely, too. American culture doesn’t have the humanity and connectivity that Filipino culture has.

“Mail-order bride” is more the story of American cultural emptiness, than an insult to Philippine culture!

Sa tining ko masyado nman over acting yung mga sobrang galit sa knya. kase totoo nman yon at yun din kase ang rereflect sa ating mga pilipino na sabik na sabik maka punta sa US. Na feeling nila nandun ang solusyon sa lahat ng problema. Ang hirap kaya dun, may recession pa. Kesa nmang maging bitter kayu, lets just learn from this and be better sa kung anung ginawa mo ngayon sa buhay mo.

I don’t like the term “mail order bride” any more than anyone else here, since it has certain negative connotations and has been used and abused by the media. However, these days, your average “mail order bride” site amounts to nothing more than your typical (and perfectly normal) online dating site, like eHarmony or match.com and the hundreds of other like them. The only difference I can tell is the clientele. Obviously they focus on Filipinas meeting up with foreigners. Maybe there are some sites that treat people like raw commodity; I have not seen those.

Whatever the case, no one should take what this windbag Alec Baldwin says with any interest. Everyone here in his home country has written him off as a misogynist for the way he has treated his American ex-wife and daughter. Clearly he has issues with women. He was probably only half joking when he made this remark. His attitude is not representative of the average man’s here in the United States. Quite the contrary.

there might be a law to that but i don’t think the government is implementing it with a fist iron coz if they are then how come there are still many many sites about it that is still popping out?

honestly, i’m also ashamed to tell the world that i live in the phils not that im ashamed being filipino but because of the bad reputation for filipinas. before i used to indicate “phils” as my location to my facebook, tagged & friendster but i eventually decided to change it coz 97% of those browsing me there are all sex maniacs who think of me as the same as many filipinas they know.
