Filipina is a nursing student from the Philippines who had to take a part-time job just to pursue her studies.

Rushing out of the house
You’ll always say “Hi, Tito
Got to catch the bus
Got lot of things to do.”

Catching a glimpse of you
I can’t help it but to sigh
Knowing the life you’re into
Oh! Filipina you’re caught in a bind.

There is an active campaign now to reclaim the Filipina image online. As I googled Filipina at 10:06AM, I saw the campaign site ranked third after Wikipedia and to a dating site. The several sites which followed were of online dating and photos of Filipinas in various scantily clad poses, all aimed at the libido. You can see this on the screen shot where the campaign site is the one marked in red. (Please click on the image for a larger view)

Let us push for elevating the Filipina to more relevant categories other than online dating sites to search engines. I personally do not believe the campaign is pointed against those who frequent these online dating sites but for a restructuring of the Filipina image as more than a dating site.

Join the campaign NOW if you believe in the capacity of the Filipina to be more than just a fodder for dating.

Happy New Year! For my first posting of the year, I am featuring some of my beloved
Filipina friends from the Filipina Women’s Network’s 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the US. The honor of being selected as an influential Filipina also connotes a lot of responsibility, including mentoring another Filipina woman. A large-scale reunion, PINAY POWER 2012, is scheduled for October 2012.

Since this is a year-long project that involves a lot of logistics, we hope to finish the videos by October 2009, just in time for the next FWN Summit.

Let’s start with this video.
