Marie (not her real name) only knew bitterness and heartache after two failed marriages. Now 50 years old, her eyes glimmer with hope as her fiancee’s trip to the Philippines nears. I felt her excitement as I asked “How did you meet him?” and Marie replied “Filipinaheart.com”. She added “My friend is lucky she found a loving husband in the midwest. For years, she knew nothing but verbal and physical abuse from her husband-addict . She introduced me to the FilipinaHeart.com site”. I never expected Marie to resort to a dating site to find another love, a third chance to find a man for keeps. Continue reading Filipina Heart I got this email from my husband. The email was supposedly sent by Jim Paredes. I cannot verify the original author since this email was just forwarded. Anyway, the email serves as a warning to all the Filipina girls to protect themselves from a rapist. Email Forward below —– Jim Paredes wrote: Katipunan , QC incident Dear friends, Many of you may not have heard of the incident that happened to a friend of my son last week at about 6:30 pm right in front of the thickly-populated area of BPI-Katipunan, near shoppersville. she parked her car right in front of BPI to make a withdrawal and to do some groceries. As she was getting into her car after doing her chores, a man suddenly appeared beside her and tried to bully her into moving to the passenger seat. when she pressed her car horn to call attention, he pushed her in the car and pinned her down with his elbow on her neck. it was a good thing that she had the presence of mind to continue to struggle and press on her car horn to catch attention (even if she had to use her foot to do this). Her assailant even tried to make people believe that it was a domestic matter by telling the crowd not to get involved as it was a “private matter”. But with the onlookers multiplying by the second, her assailant finally gave up and ran. that was when she stood up and shouted for help. Thank God the guy got caught and is now under police custody.
by Marikenya Follow-up article on the post Pinay Scandal… In the Mind of Pinays. If you know Filipinas who are worth appreciating and featuring in this website, please email it to marikenya@yahoo.com. Please include photos with your article. Together, we can show the world that Pinays should not be associated with Scandals. Everyday, I see greatness of Filipino people (no matter what they say that our nation and society is bombarded with negativities). Specifically, I admire and love Filipina women (not only because I am one) for having values that every Filipino, men and women alike, should be proud of. My Pinay heroine for today is Julie M. Borje (without any salutation of Ms. or Dir. in her name because she is so modest she just wanted everyone to address her as such). Her name is becoming popular these days because she was appointed as chairman of the Board of Jurors and Selection/Screening Committee for the Metro Manila Film Festival for 2007. If you google her name in the internet, you will find in the search results, aside from the MMFF, links on the various projects and programs she was involved with locally and internationally.
Julie Borje is currently the director of the Marikina Center for Excellence. She is my mentor and who I consider my kernel of power in the institution where we belong. She once told me during a time that I was terribly upset with some people in the organization: “Your inspiration should come from within you, not from others so you won’t get lost and frustrated when your models do something bad.”
Well, for one, I could blame 300 or so years of spanish colonialism for making our ancestors believe that if your skintone is lighter or if you have that mestiza looks, you can be mistaken for an illustrado or someone from the upperclass. Or even hold accountable the 4-year japanese invasion or the 10 years or so american administration. I have mention Ophelia A. Belo in my previous post and as a continuation of that post, here’s her valedictory address from GMANews. |
