I would like to congratulate Lorna Lardizabal-Dietz, my sister for being selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the U.S. in the category , “Behind the Scenes”. The City of Hercules Council ( where Myrna Lardizabal-de Vera, my younger sister is Chair of the Planning Commission) will honor Lorna with a Proclamation (Presentation Of A Proclamation Congratulating Ms. Lorna Dietz On Being Selected As A “Behind The Scenes” Leader By The Filipina Women’s Network)

Webstreaming for Oct. 23 council meeting will at 7:00 PM. Here’s the site where you can watch the presentation live (or a rerun afterwards.) Remember, October 23, 7 PM.

This is the profile to be shown in the Filipina Women’s Network Summit in Washington DC on Oct. 25-27 for the recognition event.

Profile of Lorna Lardizabal Dietz

“I help you find your voice and help you create your message.” Lorna Lardizabal Dietz combines her volunteer “community publicist” work with finding applicable “social media” tools for small business enterprises, professions, and community-based organizations. Filipinas Magazine ( FilipinasMag.com), NaFFAAR8.com, FilipinaImages.com, and her RadiantView.com showcase her multi-dimensional advocacies and interests.

Accomplishments

1. Since 1996, Lorna’s viral marketing efforts encourages more Filipinos to communicate with each other, thus succeeding in her goal of providing the general public with clear proof and positive validation about “the continuing growth of empowered Filipinos worldwide.” Her collaborative work as an officer of the Northern California region (Region 8), National Federation of Filipino American Associations ( NaFFAA.org), is currently focused on implementing Internet tools for effective communications among community-based organizations worldwide.

2. “Reshaping the Filipina Image Online” worldwide campaign got a face-lift in July, 2007. Lorna Lardizabal Dietz (RadiantView.com), an FWN member committed to FWN’s “Shaping the Filipina Image” campaign, her Philippines-based sister Noemi Lardizabal Dado (AboutMyRecovery.com), and her sister’s blogging colleague Dine Racoma (Dine.Racoma.com.ph ), created an internet news portal and advocacy blog, FilipinaImages.com. The website’s mission is to achieve social change: “To take back the keyword ‘Filipina’ online, striving to achieve a balance of the Filipina sites in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).” Today, the site encourages using FFWN.org and FilipinaImages.com as the websites to link the keyword “Filipina” to. On October 13, 2007, FilipinaImages.com emerged as Number 1 in USA Google SERPs. There is a global call-to-action for men and women to continue blogging about “The Filipina of the Future.”

Hello, everyone from Amsterdam! Just got in a few hours ago — and I’m still at the Schiphol Airport waiting for my ride to the lovely city of Utrecht, The Netherlands. There are no trains going to this city for the weekend. But that’s another blog entry. This airport is a shopping paradise. I even found out that buying a SIM card for 24 euros is good for other EU countries. I’m totally wired. I’m at their internet cafe, using my laptop. The great part is that I don’t have to spend 6 euros for 30-minute session on one of their computers. My blackberry 8830 is on global roaming so I’m using its international phone as modem feature. Yes, no more need of WIFI!

Regarding the FWN Summit: The past few days have been quite a whirl of activity. There are a lot of Filipina women we can be truly proud of — and I’m so glad to meet many of them who truly make a positive difference in the lives they touch.

Thank you for the congratulations greetings. I feel a little weird because I’m normally the one doing the nominations for recognition events (and my nominees make it 90% of the time). Being honored is an awesome responsibility. People expect more from me. I’ll probably still be behind the scenes most of the time since I’m helping train emerging community and professional leaders be the best they can be.

Anyway, I do have the list of the 100 women. I have to coax Doris Alfafara here in Utrecht to scan the pages for me, if she can, so I an upload it to the website (and yes, since FWN hasn’t updated its entries yet). There is generally a magazine that comes out in honor of an FWN event — so let’s see when this one will come out.

In the next few months, there will most likely be a series of blog postings related to the Overseas Filipino Migrant Workers. I’m attending a Filipino Experts Meeting on Oct. 29 and 30 — and this group is tasked to prepare for the Nov. 2 European Overseas Filipino Migrants Conference.

FYI: I learned a new term at FWN this weekend — OFP. Overseas Filipino Professional. Talk about spinning the image of the Overseas Filipino contract worker to Overseas Filipino Professional. And so be it!

    Lorna
